Lightfoot for U.S. Senate
News Releases
Gail K. Lightfoot, of Arroyo Grande, San Luis Obispo, announces her candidacy for the U.S. Senate in California’s June 2016 Primary Election. “It is sad the voters will not see any of the new-party candidates, except for president, on the November ballot. However, it is all the more important that those parties are represented in the June primary,” Lightfoot said.

“The Top Two primary system was passed by the voters in 2010, making that the last year voters saw candidates for all six ballot-qualified parties on the November ballot," Lightfoot added.

“Under the Top Two, all candidates face the same number of voter signatures petition requirements and all end up paying the filing fee most third party candidates were able to avoid in the past,” Lightfoot continued. “For this reason, few manage now to qualify.”

Lightfoot is a retired registered nurse, with three children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is a charter member of the Libertarian Party and has been a previous candidate on the California statewide ballot both for secretary of state and U.S. Senate.

Lightfoot summarizes her principles with the statement, “You may live your life your way so long as you are peaceful and self-supporting.”

Her positions on issues are based on the Declaration of Independence’s statement, “Governments are instituted by men to protect these Rights” Those rights being”Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

She also said, "This year’s Primary Election on June 7, 2016, might well be as important as 1964 when Barry Goldwater won over Nelson Rockefeller and went on to become the candidate against Lyndon Johnson. Voters are much more likely to turn out in greater numbers when the stakes are seen to be high."

In addition, with Barbara Boxer retiring, the number of candidates for U. S. Senate on the ballot, four Democrats, nine Republicans, two Libertarians, and four Independent, lowers the percentage threshold to rank as number two and appear on the November ballot.

“Persuading voters that the open primary is more democratic worked, but only for the old-party politicians, not for the citizens and voters," she said, adding, "I think voters and taxpayers will soon realize not having more choices in November is not democratic at all,” Lightfoot concluded.

I have two binders of all the work we did in 2000 and 2004. Lots of photos and PRs. I plan to do some recycling to save time. There are only 6 weeks from now to June 7th and the only way to reach the voters is for things to go viral on the Internet.

March 11, 2016
For Immediate Release

Gail K Lightfoot announced a 6th run for US Senate in California’s June 2016 Primary Election.

“It is sad that the voters will not see any of the so-called third party candidates on the Nov ballot. However, it is all the more important that those parties are represented in the June Primary.” Lightfoot asserted.

“The Top Two Primary system was passed by the voters in 2010, making that the last year voters saw candidates for all six [6] ballot qualified parties on the Nov ballot.’ Lightfoot explained.

“Under the Top Two, all candidates face the same number of voter signatures and all end up paying the Filing Fee most Third Party candidates were able to avoid in the past.” Lightfoot continued.

“For this reason, few manage to qualify. This year there will be two candidates listing their ‘Party Preference’ as Libertarian.” Lightfoot added.

“I am hoping voters remember to Vote Libertarian! Vote Lightfoot! in June 2016.” Lightfoot stated enthusiastically.
